i have been reminded-- gently-- that i've been remiss in my posting duties. truth be told, i've done nothing lately. nothing at all, beyond sleeping, eating, and keeping my fabulous biceps in shape in case i get the chance to knock heads together sometime soon.

not that i hope for that.

oh, and television. there's this canadian show on public television about a guy who apparently has 7 million miraculous uses for duct tape, but always manages to blow something up before the end of the show.

and the one about the guy who's made a list of his sins and is making up for them. none too bright, that guy. or his brother, who has an unnatural obession with "that little monkey from ET." mentioned you this week, though.

and there are now 3 CSIs.

and reruns of buffy, but those aren't my choice!

it's possible i haven't been to the gym for a couple of weeks now.

you put yourself in the spotlight, you take a fair few knocks, and they're not the kind a bodyguard can step in front of. not that we don't want to, you know. we start to kinda like you after a while, end up biking halfway across the damn continental us and tricking certain parties into sleeping cuddled up with their bikes in the motel room. we follow you around tokyo and sydney and fucking sarejevo (i'll never forget that, not for the rest of my life), and we listen. we learn a little.

we get attached, and we start to think maybe knocking a few political heads together isn't such a bad thing. you know, to expedite the process.

we still think so, even after you tell us not to.

the point is, i know fuck all about economics, and all i know about the ira is that they scare me and that takes a little more every year. i knew nothing about nuclear waste. i knew a little about sarejevo, because killing's killing once you're in the middle of it. but i learned more, because of you. people learned.

and we watch you... give yourself away, and take the hits for it. we hear you wonder if you're even making a ripple in the water at the same time you run full-tilt against another brick wall. sometimes it's years before you know it worked. once in a lifetime, you get to see it twice, twice in one day, and we get to stand next to you and think "goddamn, look at that." we get to be part of it, because it was our guys that had a hand in it, and don't think we don't puff up just a little over that.

and then it's showtime and tumpty-thousand people hear the news, and we get to stand there fighting like hell to look badass when all we want is to grab the closest person and yell "i work for these men, and i'm damned proud of it."

even if it could have happened faster with a little head-knocking.
